Restricted access to traditional sources of funding in recent years has seen a growth in alternative finance sources for new businesses and ventures. Crowdfunding has seen particular growth. From 1 April 2014, loan-based crowdfunding will be regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. It will be covered by the new regulated activity of operating an electronic system in relation to lending.
