The global financial crisis of 2008 exposed serious shortcomings in the governance of financial services firms, and the culture and behaviour that underpinned it. New senior managers and certification regimes, which are intended to enhance governance and accountability in banks, building societies, credit unions and Prudential Regulation Authority-designated investment firms, will apply from 7 March 2016.
